Google Business Profile management that follows the rules and gets found
Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing a local customer sees, before your website. We set it up properly, keep it current every month and measure what it sends you.
How does Google Business Profile optimisation work?
Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence. Optimisation improves the parts you control: accurate categories and services for relevance, a realistic service area and correct address, and prominence through reviews, replies, photos, posts and a website that matches the profile. It works over months of consistent upkeep, within Google's guidelines.
What Google Business Profile management covers
Google Business Profile management is the ongoing work of keeping your profile (formerly Google My Business) accurate, complete and active, so it shows up in Maps and the local pack for the searches your customers actually make. Most profiles are set up once, filled in halfway and left alone. That is the gap we close.
Bluepeek has approved access to the Google Business Profile API, and we have optimised our own profile and client profiles, including descriptions, services, categories and first posts. We are based in Molendinar, so a lot of our Google Business Profile optimisation on the Gold Coast is for local workshops and trades, but the work is the same for any Australian business.
How the local pack and Maps rank businesses
Google says local results are based mainly on three factors. Understanding them stops you wasting time on things that do not move the needle.
| Factor | What Google means | What you can influence |
|---|---|---|
| Relevance | How well the profile matches what the person searched for | Categories, services, products, description and a website that backs them up |
| Distance | How far the business is from the searcher or the location in the search | An accurate address or realistic service area. You cannot fake proximity |
| Prominence | How well known the business is, online and off | Reviews and review replies, photos, activity, links and mentions around the web, and local SEO on your website |
Distance is why a business in Nerang can struggle to appear for a search made in Southport, however well optimised it is. The honest goal is to be the strongest option in your real catchment, which is where local SEO and the profile work together.
Categories, services and products
The primary category is one of the strongest relevance signals on the profile. It should describe what the business mainly is, not everything it does. Secondary categories add the other genuine services. Every category must match work the business actually does.
Categories are also not always what you expect. From our own profile work: in Australia there is no "Car detailing service" category, so detailers typically combine "Car wash" with "Valeting service" and other relevant categories. Checking what exists in the Australian list, rather than guessing, avoids choosing something that sounds right but does not match. Our car detailers hub covers this in more detail.
Services and products fill in the detail categories cannot. List each service you want to be found for, in plain words customers use, and add products with photos where it helps (for example a set of detailing packages or a range of review plaques).
Description, photos, posts and hours
The business description
Google's guidelines say the description should describe the business: what you offer, who you serve and what makes you different. It should not contain URLs, promotional or sales language, special offers or calls to action like "call now". Write it for a customer, not for a keyword tool.
Photos
Real photos of your work, your premises, your vehicles and your team. Customers use them to judge whether you are the real deal. Stock images and AI-generated shots do the opposite.
Posts and updates
Posts show the profile is active and give you space for recent jobs, seasonal services and news. A short post with a real job photo is worth more than a polished graphic.
Hours
Regular hours, public holiday hours and special hours. Wrong hours cost you a customer who turns up to a locked door and often a bad review with it.
Service areas, address and NAP consistency
Service-area businesses, like mobile mechanics or tradies who work at the customer's home, should hide their street address and list the areas they genuinely serve. Google's guidance says the service area should not extend beyond roughly two hours' driving from where the business is based. Listing every suburb in the state does not make you rank there, and it can make the profile look less trustworthy.
Your name, address and phone number (NAP) should match exactly between the profile, your website and other directories. Mismatches, like an old phone number on the website or a different trading name, make it harder for Google to be sure the listings are the same business.
Reviews, replies and questions
Reviews feed prominence and are what customers read before they call. We reply to reviews on your behalf, or with your sign-off, and set up a way to ask every customer for one through our Google review system and, if it suits, NFC Google review cards. We never gate, buy or write reviews.
Where the questions and answers feature is available on your profile, we monitor it so incorrect answers from the public do not sit there unchallenged.
Measuring what the profile sends you
Google shows calls, direction requests and website clicks in the profile's performance view. We add UTM tags to the website link on the profile (for example utm_source=google and utm_medium=organic with a campaign name like gbp) so visits from the profile show up as their own line in your analytics instead of blending into general Google traffic. That is how you tell whether the profile, your Google Ads on the Gold Coast or organic search is doing the work.
Verification and suspension risks
Suspensions usually come from breaking the guidelines, often by accident. A common one is keyword stuffing the business name, such as adding "Best Mechanic Gold Coast" to a name that is really just the owner's surname and "Automotive". Google's rules say the name should match the real-world business name. Other triggers include a virtual office or PO box as the address, a service area that does not match reality and sudden bulk edits.
Major changes such as a new address or name can also trigger re-verification, and the profile may be hard to edit until it clears. We plan those changes carefully rather than making them all at once. We cannot promise any ranking position, and we will not use tactics that risk a suspension to chase one.

Frequently asked questions
Is Google Business Profile the same as Google My Business?
Yes. Google renamed Google My Business to Google Business Profile. The profile, the reviews and the way it appears in Maps and search are the same thing. Anyone offering Google My Business management is talking about the same work: keeping the profile accurate, active and well reviewed so it appears for local searches.
Can you guarantee a spot in the Google Maps top three?
No, and be wary of anyone who does. Google ranks on relevance, distance and prominence, and distance depends on where the person searching is. We improve what you control and report what the profile actually sends you in calls, direction requests and website visits.
Should I add keywords to my business name on Google?
No. Google's guidelines say the name should match your real-world business name. Adding locations or service keywords can lead to the profile being suspended, and a suspension costs far more than any short-term gain. Put services in the categories, services and description instead, where they help relevance without risking the profile.
Should I hide my address on my Google Business Profile?
If customers do not visit your premises, yes. Service-area businesses should hide the address and list realistic service areas. If you have a shopfront or workshop customers visit, show the address so it appears on Maps. A hybrid business that does both can show the address and add service areas too.
How often should a Google Business Profile be updated?
Check it at least monthly: reply to reviews, add posts and photos, and confirm hours before public holidays. Core details like categories and address should change only when the business does, because big edits can trigger re-verification and leave the profile hard to edit for a while.
Do you need access to my Google account?
We ask to be added as a manager on the profile, which Google supports. You stay the owner, and you can remove our access at any time. We never need your Google password, and if you do not have a profile yet we help you create and verify it in your own name.
