Barberz Den: when Google confuses Kiara in Perth with Kirra on the Gold Coast

Kiara, Kirra and a confused search engine

Kiara is a small residential suburb in Perth’s north-east. Kirra is a well-known beach at Coolangatta on the Gold Coast. One letter apart, and Google treated them as close enough: the first result for “barber Kiara” was a Gold Coast barber, and another top-five result was a Kirra Beach barbershop’s booking page.

Barberz Den ranked second, behind that Gold Coast result, with a Fresha page for barbers in Kiara, Perth further down. The fix is not a trick. It is making the place unmistakable everywhere Google looks.

What we built into the site

• The suburb in the title and heading: “Barber Kiara” and “Barber in Kiara for Haircuts, Skin Fades and Beard Trims.”
• A page for each service with Kiara in the address: skin fades, zero fades, men’s haircuts, beard trims, haircut and beard, kids haircuts, hot towel shaves, senior haircuts and face waxing.
• A section headed “A local barber for Kiara and Perth”, which puts the city next to the suburb in the copy.
• Opening hours in the structured data and the shop’s mobile number as a tap-to-call link.

What moves the needle next

• Say “Kiara, Perth WA” in the places Google weighs most: the title, the first paragraph and the Google profile description. That one change separates the suburb from Kirra.
• Neighbouring suburbs. Kiara is small, so pages or sections for the suburbs around it widen the catchment with searches that are not confused with anywhere else.
• A strong Google profile with reviews, which puts the shop in the map pack, where the Kirra confusion does not apply because the map is anchored to Perth. See our Google review system.
